nice price deal !!! morgan zarate is best known for pushing r&b and hip hop into new spaces, taking influences from the us and uk and creating raw, emotional and psychedelic beats. on this first ep for hyperdub, his production steps up in tempo, and the influence on his music of grime and dubstep shines through.

waxs juan hoerni taking us on a trip with this lush ode to africa. >afrique< is turning heads in the deep/soulful community, earning plenty of plays and support from overseas as well. might have to do with spinnas typically sublime musical remix. great stuff from the up-and-coming la imprint chacha.

whats my name, the latest single from the bajan songstress rihanna, is not a cover of the clashs 1977 punk classic, but finds riri taking a detour from the dancefloor-scorching grooves of only girl to craft a steamier cut which draws its heat from her short-lived, but much-buzzed-about relationship with the t-dot heavyweight. here, the upbeat synth boardwork of stargate sets the stage for a heaping helping of innuendo from both collaborators, drizzy handles verse one, sing-rapping his way through a double-entendre-peppered opener (the square root of 69 is (eight/ate) something… right? cause i been tryin to work it out.), and rihanna responds in kind, lacing her verses and chorus with some playful come-ons of her own. digging this catchy ode to young love/lust? then be sure to grab a copy of this vinyl and the heavy remixes it has.

following on from their last two sell out eps, foto recordings (run by ali ooft!) enlist the talents of deep space orchestra for release number three in the catologue. first up >riding in my imaginary jeep< showcases their trademark old synths/modern production aesthetic to full effect, taking in classic drum machines and warm synth lines to produce an epic piece of deep house. second track >sir shina< sees them doing some deft sample-manipution with a big chugging midtempo jam the result. ooft! meanwhile give >riding< the once-over, beefing up the low end whilst retaining most of the musical parts.

northern structures (troels baunbæk-knudsen and lasse buhl) are a copenhagen based techno duo. troels has been making all kinds of electronic music since the age of 14 but focused mainly on a long international drum’nbass carreer under the excentric pyro moniker. lasse is a longtime dj and has been developing his own productions, with a background in soundscapes and organised noise. both share a love for the harder and deeper sounds of techno not often found in copenhagen, taking in a wide range of influences from the early uk industrial and dub tinged berlin sound to jazz, experimental electronica and rock. the ambition is to create a marriage of industrial and organic textures by avoiding strict rules of programming and aiming for more of a jam based musical playground feel.

remix #1 is one the favorites of the entire project. claude met brazils dj marky on an artist bus at a uk festival last summer and gave him the track >aundy<. he asked him to do a mix and marky and his friend s.p.y. turned in this amazing drum n bass version. numerous artists have been dropping it even in the middle of house sets! it really captures the drum n bass feeling of the original track taking it back to the genre which inspired it.
remix #2 is from our up and coming bristol based bass prodigy, julio bashmore. he takes on >california< the co-production by cvs and j phlip to another level, adding smooth low end bukem style bass drops and shimmery vox/pad programming to the already insane track. bashmore is one of the few new breed of uk producers who cross over all the way from house to dubstep.

super limited 12 inch in screen printed sleeve with bing ji ling and barck+prommer remixes ... limited to just 300 copies, pressed on delicious 180 gram vinyl and presented in a silk-screen printed sleeve, >make you mine< is quite the 12 inch to get your hands on this autumn! the opening track of incarnations forthcoming debut album >with all due respect< is a sundrenched balearic bomb if ever there was one. handsome threesome daniel collas, quinn luke (akabing ji ling) and bart davenport soaked up all the good vibes of the tarifa studio on the south-coast of spain, just in front of africa, where the mediterranean sea and the atlantic ocean meet, and transformed them into little over three-and-a-half minutes of pure loving goodness, reminiscent of the 70s west coast sounds among many other things. on remix duties we have christian prommer and alex >jazzanova< barck taking the track into the late night territory with an epic deep-house stormer, while bing ji ling makes those lazy sofa surfers get up and boogie while the sun is setting with a strong ny flavour.

stroboscopic artefacts rip into autumn with a masterful split vinyl. sa006 sees jonas kopp taking to the a-side with the punishingly good >alkitran< and the flip side picks up where the monad series left off with markus suckuts >vary<. >alkitran< writhes hissing and spitting into existence. snares lash across the opening, to be replaced by subaqueous grumbles and whirling from above. the title >alkitran> begs no translation, the tracks sticky, black palette and viscous textures effortlessly communicate the notion of tar. markus suckuts >vary> takes the opposite tact, his dark tones are built amid structures that are suffused with light and dappled with the grindingly ecstatic. this is superbly elegant techno that has refused to sacrifice any of its hardness in order to achieve elegance.

beg to differ is a dance music duo comprised of house hero nick chacona and wurst label boss roy dank. the two longtime friends started tinkering around in the studio last year, remixing the likes of detachments for thisisnotanxit as well as nicks solo outing with kathy diamond for moodmusic, and quickly finding favor with fellow new yorkers james murphy and holy ghost!. influenced by talking heads, my bloody valentine, and paulsimpson, beg to differs work is characterized by big hooks, live instrumentation, and lush production. the duos wurst debut features two massive - and decidedly different - reworks. parisian afrobeat masters bibi tanga & the selenites get the full beg to differ overhaul on >be africa<, complete with infectious arpeggios, killer keys, and an entirely new rhythm section, with nick himself on bass duties. the pop rock of the hours >ali in the jungle< is transformed into an epic, string-laden anthem taking in disco, rock, and even trance by the end of the mix. heavy to say the very least.

supplement facts records continue their rich run of form by handing a label debut to detroit-native lee curtiss. the >and we all fall down< ep has been one of the most hotly anticipated from the israeli label and is set to become the soundtrack to the last echoes of summer. we continue to dance, as the days grow short our nights become longer and lees ep is the perfect accompaniment….>i can hear you arthur<, a tribute to one of lees long-time music heroes, arthur russell, is an emotional escape. with russell being a direct sound-inspiration for the release, we are treated to a longing for a far away love. with waves of sound that build and cascade, accompanied by pillow-talk whisperings, all creating eight minutes of rhythmic, warm grooves. arthur never sounded better. after the body-swaying vibes of the a, side b brings the perspirec-electronic throb and hip-grinding action of labor of love. after yearning for arthur, we are more than appeased with the beautifully sultry and ever so intimate vocals of stephanie selvaggio. with its rhythmic guitar opening belying its true intention, labor of love develops into a sensual dancefloor cut with stephanies vocals floating effortlessly with the acidic beats as she drives us ‚crazy, and we all fall down is a perfect example of an artist at his most vunerable. its brutally honest sound invites the listener in with open arms and wraps itself around them like a warm cashmere blanket. as the brutal realisation that summer is almost over starts to sink in…its worth taking comfort in records like this, that make the transition that much easier.

producer and dj, richy pitch moved from uk to ghana, west africa and took on the challenge to record an lp which drew on his many musical experiences during his stay. his goal was to record with local stars and talent and fuse the classic sound of ghanaian music with his own production skills that he had already developed in london. two years later and back to london, richy knocked on bbe records door to deliver ye fre mi richy pitch. (they call me richy pitch in twi) his creation gives the listener an excellent taste of the many different styles of ghanaian and west african music from highlife, hiplife to afrobeat to traditional percussion music, all combined with a fresh production twist. it features the cream of ghanaian music talent including mobo and mtv africa winner samini, reggie rockstone, known as the godfather of hiplife and talented mcs such as wanlov the kubolor, m3nsa and m.anifest, plus many other inspiring ghanaian artists.

new label from dublin club promoter conor lynch. conor has been djing and promoting the pogo night for a number of years now, and has a very diverse music policy, with the underlying ethos of anything goes, as long as it is quality. guests have ranged from theo parrish, b12, carl craig, optimo through to the ting tings. the aim is to transfer the ethos from the vibrant club onto vinyl. this is certainly not the reason that we would consider taking on a label for distribution, but the fact that this release from dublin real techno producers tr-one, is as beautiful a slice of deep detroit styled techno as your likely to hear his side of the motor city, certainly is.
